Melting Softly Into Time

So I came across this blog where this person has uploaded links to all this sound art and his brief descriptions got me kind of interested so I picked one and downloaded it. I've listened to noise music before, namely Omar Rodriguez Lopez as an extension of my love for his jazzy solo work. I felt compelled to listen to something from a more objective origin that would satisfy my fascination with the art of crafting abstract soundscapes.

Melting Softly Into Time by Macronympha is what landed in my downloads folder because the vinyl sleeve caught my eye and I genuinely wondered what an assembly of household appliances would sound like. The cacophony that ensued surprised me with its sonic depth. Piercing screeches we're interrupted by an ominous rumble. I started to imagine what strange machines could emit such alien sounds. Thats good because I like it when a piece of art inspires my imagination weather its a painting, a book or music. Towards the end of the second track there is a sharp drop in volume as a new device is introduced. It gently whirls away and begins to accelerate towards a climax but is pre-emptively interrupted by another booming explosion of noise. Its playful. For a moment I felt as though I understood the artists intentions, perhaps a childlike exploration of grown up toys?

Somehow I found myself enjoying this abusive experience. Next time I think I will share my thoughts on the new Kings of Leon album because that is totally different to Melting Into Time by Macronympha, but also interesting and important.
